Assal Habibi, PhD., a Professor of Psychology at the University of Southern California, and Ellen Herschel, a PhD student at the University of Southern California are conducting a research study on music and audiobook listening and management of agitation and anxiety associated with cognitive impairment in older adults. We want to learn how listening to music or audiobooks impacts anxiety and agitation in adults who have early stage dementia or moderate cognitive impairment between ages 65-85. Participation involves a 1-hour online survey on Zoom with one of our research staff for both the participant and the caregiver. Following that, participants will be asked to listen to either music or audiobooks via a tablet and headphones at your home. The study equipment will be sent to you via FedEx. You will be asked to listen to either music or audiobooks four times per week, each time 30-minute long for total of 8 weeks.  After the 8 weeks, you will be asked to complete another 1-hour online survey on Zoom with one of our research staff. Participants and their caregivers will be given $30 per hour for their participation in the assessment and music listening. If you are interested in participating, please click on the sign-up button to fill out a brief screening questionnaire and the research team will be in contact with you shortly.

Please note, we are enrolling pairs of individuals: each pair needs a care person or support person as well as an individual experiencing early stage dementia or moderate cognitive impairment.

If you have any questions, please let us know. Thank you for your time!
